New features
  • clubbuzzclubbuzz August 2011

OK so thought we'd give you some taste of the new features coming on 1st September :) so today is new feature number 1 (Starting with a very exciting development!)

Firstly the new advanced feature "Embedding third party widgets"

You are able to embed widgets into public pages and member custom pages from the following sites:

    • Fixtures Live • League Republic • Full Time • Facebook • Twitter • You Tube

This will make significant changes to your ability to customise your site and include new content as well as incorporating league placings, fixtures etc from these sites

This is great news....is there a guide to embedding the widgets ? I tried just now by putting the widget script into a document and all I got returned was the code I entered.

  • clubbuzzclubbuzz August 2011

Not ready yet this launches 1st Sept and there will be a guide as this is going to be done in a very specific way :)

  • TeshTesh August 2011

    Sounds like a great advance!

Are we going to get Twitter and Facebook widgets on the homepage? They are a little burried in the site at the moment the in about the club section etc.

Also, will this functionality be for Bronze/Silver or just Gold?

  • clubbuzzclubbuzz August 2011

Thanks! Not on the homepage initially but we are looking at home page layout in the future

This will be available for all categories :)

  • clubbuzzclubbuzz August 2011

OK so another new feature is the ability to send a customised email to all new members - you decide what you want to include and as soon as a member accepts their invitation to join the website they receive the email from you - a more personal touch :)

  • clubbuzzclubbuzz August 2011

New version getting close now, upgrade on Tues night - new version will recognise whether a sport has strips, if not (for example tennis) then the system does not ask for strips detail. Also, for those with team strips, colours are shown on meet teams page

Great work on the update, so many new ideas now to customize our site I just don't know where to start!

  • clubbuzzclubbuzz September 2011

Thanks and now to plan for 1.4!!

  • TeshTesh September 2011

Can you point me in the direction of where I can see the guide to embed widgets? Or alternatively, can you let me know when it will be available?

  • philhogginsphilhoggins September 2011

click the 'what are shortcodes' link when you create a new page, it gives you all the details there as an example for using FixturesLive just enter the code {{fixtures_live[DIVISION:nnnnn]}} where nnnnn is your unique id for your league

  • TeshTesh September 2011

    Cheers Phil, much appreciated!

  • TeshTesh September 2011

Guys, I can’t stress how important it is to have the facebook 'like' and twitter feed available on the homepage and in the get involved section of the website (it seems that it’s not possible to use short codes there).

In my opinion the whole point of the widgets is that they should be in a prominent position so that no work is necessary from the visitor’s point of view, for example, to 'like' the facebook page.

As great as the functionality is, it is massively restricted if it can’t be used on the most visited pages. Are there any plans to allow this?

  • clubbuzzclubbuzz September 2011

Tesh, we will be looking at layouts and this will be considered within this overview - we have been very mindful in our design of not allowing home pages to become overly cluttered (which then detracts from their appearance) but appreciate that there may be a place for some additional functionality in them - rest assured your comments will be discussed at our next development review

  • TeshTesh September 2011

Thanks for letting me know it will be discussed.

Good point regarding clutter, but I guess it would be great to allow the choice for each club, which (I guess) would only mean allowing the shortcode to function on all pages.

    Cheers

  • harbsharbs September 2011

It's great to have the ability to use fixtures live in the site. Can see where Tesh is coming from

  • creativerobertcreativerobert September 2011

I have to be here because it's about widget updates...

  • clubbuzzclubbuzz September 2011

Had a great development meeting today and have some exciting options to consider, this may well involve us being able to make the home page more personal to clubs with the ability to select certain content - we need to work on this and there will be more info in our next newsletter
