What does the Olympics mean for you and your club, and what legacy do you think it will leave?

As the Olympics creep ever closer I just wondered how people were feeling about it, not so much the event itself which promises to be a feast of sporting excellence (and so exciting that it is actually taking place on our doorstep) but about how this affects your club both now in the build up and then after the event?

hoping that the sportivate programme will encourage more youngsters into sport and we need to be ready to take advantage of this. This means we have to be ready now to welcome new players, have the building blocks in place to offer them coaching and team spaces and then develop the club to cope with the influx that we are hoping for. The Olympics themselves may well have the "Wimbledon" affect everyone picks up their tennis racket during Wimbledon and for a couple of weeks after so hopefully some of the less popular or well known sports will be able to pick up new players - it's then up to us to keep them motivated for more than 2 weeks!

At the moment it's the buzz about who has or more to the point hasn't got tickets and this has caused some frustration amongst our members but I think as the time gets closer and more people do get tickets, or go to the events planned around the torch relay then the excitement will build and there will be a good vibe. We are talking about holding some Olympic events leading up to the Games including some come and try events, some social events, fundraising etc and using the Olympics as an excuse to get people together more often

This is an interesting piece which illustrates that there's still work to do to get the nation's kids enthused about the Olympics. The survey did show that there are a lot of kids interested in trying a sport and the particular favourites were Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Football, Basketball and Shooting. So for clubs there appears that there's still some work to do to use the Olympics to start to tap into the enthusiasm there is and to encourage kids to start getting involved. http://www.insidethegames.biz/olympics/summer-olympics/2012/13362-only-half-of-britains-young-people-excited-about-london-olympics-but-staging-them-is-making-more-kids-want-to-get-involved-in-sport

with 26 sports being showcased at the Olympics surely there is something for everyone. We almost need a coherent approach by area where clubs get together and offer a showcase event to harness the interest of kids. This could mean a large number of people getting involved and all clubs getting a chance to vie for the new members
